Q. Do I need a Jade wallet to use Custody Safe?

Q. How does Custody Safe keep my Bitcoin secure?

Your private keys never leave your Jade device. SmashFi only interacts with your public address — it cannot access, move, or control your Bitcoin in any way.

Q. What happens to my Bitcoin if I lose my Jade device?

Your Bitcoin is secured by your Jade's recovery phrase, which you set up when you first configure the device. As long as you have your recovery phrase stored safely, you can restore access on a new Jade at any time. SmashFi has no involvement in this process.

Q. Can I access Custody Safe across multiple devices?

Custody Safe is tied to your Jade hardware wallet, not a specific phone or browser. As long as you have your Jade, you can connect it to SmashFi from any device.

Q. How does Custody Safe work with Auto-Buy and Boost?

Auto-Buy and Boost run on SmashFi as usual, and your Bitcoin stays in your SmashFi account. When you're ready to move it, head to SmashFi's Transfer page — where you can choose to deposit Bitcoin to your Jade, or withdraw from your Jade back to SmashFi. You stay in control of when and how your Bitcoin moves.

Q. What makes Custody Safe different from keeping Bitcoin on SmashFi?

When Bitcoin stays in your SmashFi account, SmashFi holds it on your behalf. With Custody Safe, Bitcoin is forwarded to your Jade wallet — where only you hold the private keys. No third party, including SmashFi, can access it.

Q. Can I withdraw my Bitcoin from Custody Safe anytime?

Yes. You can withdraw your Bitcoin from Custody Safe to any external address at any time.

Q. What blockchains and assets does Custody Safe support?

Custody Safe currently supports Bitcoin-only wallets. Support for wallets with additional assets may be added in the future.

Q. Can I connect a wallet other than Jade?

Jade is the first supported wallet. Support for Keystone, Bitkey, and others is in development and will be added over time.

Q. Is it safe to connect my Jade to SmashFi?

To connect your Jade, you'll provide your wallet's extended public key (xpub). This allows SmashFi to view your balance and generate receive addresses — without any access to your private keys.

Although an extended public key (xpub) cannot authorize transactions or access your funds, it can be used to derive wallet addresses and monitor transaction activity.

For this reason, we treat xpubs as sensitive information and protect them using industry-standard encryption and strict access controls to safeguard your privacy.

Your private keys never leave your Jade device. SmashFi can see your wallet, but cannot move your Bitcoin without your authorization.

Q. How do I connect my Jade to SmashFi?

Jade supports two connection methods — USB cable or Air-gap (QR code).

With Air-gap mode, your Jade and SmashFi communicate by scanning QR codes from each other's screens — no physical connection needed.
With USB, simply plug your Jade into your device and connect through SmashFi directly.
